„Modular Distancing in Open Buildings“ is the debut from the glitchy, electro acoustic project KNAUF the alias of the multidisciplinary artist Sascha Rosemarie Höfer. It was made out of three different sound sources. KNAUF used some really old unfinished material from 2004 to 2006 which he rediscovered on his old dusty macbook, used samples from a rehearsal room recording of a befriended band deconstructed them and added modified live fragments of a dictaphone recording from one of his best friends wedding concert.
Based on these different sound sources and styles it was very important for KNAUF to create a homogeneous result in the end. A great deal of this album is due to the compositional works of Christian Häusler and Christoph Herting who are involuntary took part as KNAUF's ensemble while they got sampled (as a band as well as the wedding concert duo).
KNAUF used old recording styles and equipment as well as software computer devices from the early 2000's. The goal, as always, was to reach an organic and genuine sound result eventually.
